• The Legal Aid through Legal Education (LALE) II Fellowship provides recent graduates of Law and Sharia faculties an opportunity to gain practical experience by working in organizations that provide legal aid in Afghanistan. Beyond gaining valuable work experience and useful skills, fellows are able to expand their professional networks and ease their path into a legal career. The one-year fellowship is supported by The Asia Foundation through the provision of a monthly stipend for the selected fellows. These fellows are distributed across Afghanistan by the Afghanistan Legal Aid and Advocates Network (ALAAN), which is made up of governmental and non-governmental organizations that provide legal aid services.

    The 12-month positions are scheduled to start May 1,  2021. The LALE Fellowship provides net 100,00 AFN per month as a stipend. No other benefits or financial assistance will be provided to the fellows.

    Note - Only the graduates of Law and Sharia Faculties are qualified for the legal fellowship program and the graduates of other faculties are not entitled for the legal fellowship program.

    The vacancy will be closed for the application on April 10 , 2021. After the due date no application will be considered.

    Organizations that are participating are:The Legal Aid Department of the Ministry of Justice (LAD), Afghanistan Independent Bar Association (AIBA), International Legal Foundation-Afghanistan (ILF-A), Afghanistan Human Rights Organization (AHRO), Medica Afghanistan, Justice for All Organization (JFAO), Safeer Growth & Development Organization (SGDO) and Voice of Women Organization (VWO). Balkh university legal clinic, Kandahar university legal clinic and Herat legal clinic TAF.

    The  LALE Fellowship is available in 34 provinces of the country.

    Please note that not all organizations will be available in all provinces.


    To apply the LALE Fellowship candidates must be recent graduates (last two years) of either the Law Faculty or the Sharia Faculty. Current students graduating in 2021 and the graduate students of 2020 and 2019 are  qualify, but must present their diplomas to the employer organization. Each applicant must choose which provinces and which organizations they wish to apply to and are given three choices. Applicants who have participated in extra-curricula programs, especially those who took Pre-Clinic and Legal Writing courses of the Asia Foundation will have an advantage in the selection process. Also, because of the high number of applications, those candidates who choose positions in more remote provinces are more likely to be selected. Positions in locations such as Kabul, Herat, Balkh and Nanharhar provinces, usually have a higher number of applicants.

    Note -  Only for Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kapisa provices the students of legal writing and pre-clinic courses that have been provided by the Foundation will be hired as legal fellows. Application for other than above provinces are open to graduates of law and sharia faculties.
